It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed to maintain mental balance.Nortriptyline comes as a capsule and an oral liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken one to four times a day and may be taken with or without food. Take nortriptyline at around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take nortriptyline exactly as directed.
